io9 paints a bleak picture of the future of bookstores, and I'm not happy.
Here in Singapore, we don't have many small independent stores, only large chain ones, and if Borders goes bust (the way it's going in the US), then all that will happen is that out range of choices will shrink. Borders has already shut down a whole string of Waldens, leaving some communities without a bookstore - not happy.
What I'd like to see is a couple more indie stores catering to genre interests. Books, Actually is great, but it's no Fantastic Planet. I'm just not sure that Singapore has a large enough population/market to support something like that.
